My Family Christmas Letter

PERKINS’ FAMILY 2008 CHRISTMAS LETTER

We wish to send you God’s blessings and good tidings during this Christmas season. We know that your past year probably has been just as eventful as ours so we would like to share a little bit about what has been going on in the Perkins household.

This May Shannon graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from California State University of Fullerton. She is working hard at Bubba Gump as a server and will be returning to school this coming spring to become a nurse. You might have seen her riding around on the back of her boyfriend’s, Jeff, motorcycle.

Crystal has been working hard towards her degree in American Studies and will be graduating this coming May. She is looking forward to moving to the Bay area afterwards. She and her boyfriend Derrick celebrated his graduation with a degree in History in June along with their three-year anniversary in August. Don’t worry we will let every one know when wedding bells will be rung.

Eric joined the Air Force in July and the family was able to go to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas to watch his graduation in August. We are all so proud of him for serving his country. Eric was able to come home and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with the family. Afterwards he and Marta drove out to McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas where he will be stationed. He sure is happy to be done with training and tech school.

This year our family suffered some heartache with the passing of Rich’s
mom, June, who passed away this August at the age of 86. She has gone to meet her Lord and to join her husband and son. We all will miss her but we know that she is now at peace.

Rich and Marta have both been keeping themselves very busy this past year. Marta continues to work hard at the church doing the finances and is on the council. Rich has been working on the preschool board and helping with various aspects of the church. Both continue to volunteer with the Epiphany organization, which is a prison ministry that works within the California Youth Authority located in Chino, California. Rich also celebrated his 60th birthday this June.

As the year comes to a close we are all reminded of the continual blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us. We pray that we find you and your family as greatly blessed as we have been. May the Lord’s grace and blessings be with you all in the New Year.

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’ Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.’”

Thanksgiving Day

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
This morning I happen to wake up with a terrible earache which turned out to be an ear infection. So I spent part of my Thanksgiving day going to Urgent Care to get it checked out. Good thing I went right away because ear infections don't get better with time. My ear feels a little bit better tonight.

Other than that I spent a nice Thanksgiving dinner with my family. My pumpkin pies that I made were good but I now know how to make them better for next year.

The drawbacks of the holidays

As Thanksgiving approaches I am reminded of all the good things I have in my life while I am also reminded of what seems to be lacking. One of the hardest things right now is the fact that I wont be able to celebrate the holidays with my one great love, Derrick. This is the fourth Thanksgiving that we have had since we started dating and this will be the fourth Thanksgiving that we wont be celebrating together. It is difficult to be both sad and happy right now. I am sad that we can't celebrate it together but I am also happy that my brother is here for the holiday. This might be the last time the whole family will be together before Eric deploys. It is bittersweet which I think is the same for most holidays for most people.

Eric comes home tomorrow

I am looking forward to seeing my little brother tomorrow. He'll be home by this time tomorrow night which is totally cool. I haven't seen him since August and I know that he is totally excited to get the hell out of Texas.

Tomorrow we got stuff to do before he arrives. I am excited about Thanksgiving. It is my favorite holiday and I am really looking forward to it. What I am not looking forward to is the fact that Derrick wont be there to celebrate the holiday with me. Very typical for us and in our relationship.

The holidays are always difficult for people and it is even harder when you can't not be with the people you love during them. This Thanksgiving will be special since Eric hasn't been home since July.

On another sad note. I recorded Numb3rs tonight and it didn't record the whole of it so I have no idea how it ends. Sucky!!!

First post.

Well this is my my first first posting on here. I doubt that anyone will look at it. I just came home from a long day of school and dealing with getting my car and my parents car into and out of the shop. It was annoying because the last people I want to are mechanics. I look like I'm 16 so that is what I am treated like so it gets old really really really fast.

I am looking forward to this weekend though because my brother is coming home on Saturday. I have to deal with more car stuff tomorrow and writing a paper. Also I need to do some housework before he comes. I miss Eric, my brother, a lot since I haven't seen him since August and it was weird then due to the fact that it was right after my grandmother passed away. Can't wait for Thanksgiving especially since it is my favorite holiday of the year!!!
